Edge components
Edge components are the device-side software that connects your hardware to Fundamentum, so you don't have to implement provisioning, authentication and the MQTT protocol yourself. This section helps you pick the right component and set it up.
| Component | Runs on | Your application talks to it through | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Linux daemon | Linux devices and gateways | gRPC, from any language | Your device runs Linux. |
| MCU library | Microcontrollers, bare metal or RTOS | C function calls and hooks | Your device has no operating system or very little memory. |
| Port-forwarding agent | Linux devices | Nothing: it runs on its own | You need remote access to a device port, with or without the daemon. |
The Linux daemon and the MCU library are open source under the Apache-2.0 license. All components use the same device identity as the rest of the platform: a serial number and an RSA key pair. See Provisioning.
In this section
- Linux daemon: install, configure and use the Fundamentum Edge daemon over gRPC.
- MCU library: integrate the C99 library into your firmware.
- Port-forwarding agent: reach a device's local ports from your workstation.
